Over the course of the past several years, our understanding of sustainability issues has established Laird Plastics as an industry leader. Today, OEM's, fabricators, printers, and exhibitors are looking to apply various elements of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) philosophy into their businesses. Of particular concern to us at Laird is the recycling / reuse and repurposing of materials as well as accurate disposal documentation. For this reason Laird Plastics has put in place "green" best practices to demonstrate environmental stewardship through recycling.
The Laird recycling model is different than a typical recycling program one sees at the local level. It is no longer good enough to export material for incineration or unknown applications. Ours is a closed loop system that directs collected materials, wherever possible, to domestic outlets. These outlets can include OEMs, extruders, or compounders. By developing strong relationships with our outsource partners, we can provide transparency to the process, and support claims with documentable fact.
Laird Plastics has implemented procedures to identify our "footprint" and established goals for continual and sustainable improvement. We have created a business unit solely dedicated to the recycling of plastics, and committed to doing our part to improve the public perception of the plastics industry.
